Tonto Cotudo, a game to enjoy with the whole family (suitable for children)
The card game "Tonto Cotudo" is a variant of the game known as "Tonto," which is popular in some parts of Latin America, especially Chile.
Players:
The game can be played with 3 or more players.
Objective: not to be left with any cards in your hand and try to get rid of all your cards.
Cards: A standard 52-card deck is used. You can assign two specific cards the role of wild cards.
Card Distribution: All cards are dealt among the players.
Game Play: Game Start: The player with the Two of Diamonds (or other card designated as a joker) starts the first round.
Plays: On each turn, a player must play one or more cards of the same rank as the last card played or from the joker.
For example, if the last player played a 7 of Diamonds, on your turn you may play:
- Another card that is a 7 (for example, 7 of Hearts) or
- Any card that acts as a wild card, such as the Two of Diamonds or whatever joker you decide to use.
Wildcards:
- Two of Diamonds (or other designated card): Can be played at any time and allows the player playing it to change suit.
- Another wild card (it could be the Joker, for example): It can be played at any time and allows the player who plays it to change the suit.
Jumps:
- If a player cannot or does not want to play any valid cards during his turn, he has the option to "skip."
- When a player decides to "skip," it means that he passes his turn without playing any cards.
- When a player jumps, the other players must pick up all the cards in the center of the table, that is, the cards played up to that point during the round.
- The player who jumped does not pick up cards, since he did not participate in the current play.
Round Winner: The player with no cards left in their hand wins the round and scores points. The player with cards left at the end of the round scores points based on the value of the cards remaining in their hand.
Points: Points may be assigned based on the value of unplayed cards.
Continued: Several rounds are played, and points are accumulated. The objective is to avoid accumulating points and becoming the "Crazy Fool."
Game Winner : The game may have a predetermined number of rounds or may continue until a player reaches a certain amount of points, depending on the agreed rules.
Adapt the rules to your players' preferences and be sure to clearly state which cards are designated as wild cards before starting the game. Good luck!
