Article: The origin of the Parcheesi.

PARQUÉS

The origin of the Parcheesi.

Did you know that our Parcheesi is a derivative of “Pachisi” originally from India?

It was brought to Colombia as entertainment by British slaves working on sugar plantations. Parchessi comes from Ludo, which originated from the Indian games Pachisi and Chaupar. Known as the “game of emperors,” it was popularized by Akbar the Great and is still considered India’s national game today.

The goal of Pachisi is to make a full circuit with all the pieces—just like in parcheesi. The difference is that in Pachisi, the starting point is the same as the finishing point, called Charkoni, and there are no “exit” or “home” places. Just as Colombia created its own variation called “Parqués”,there are many other versions around the world: Parcheesi in the United States, Parchís in Spain, and Petits Chevaux in France. #BRFunFacts
